818. Glen and Tanya were holdovers. A NYC agency had decided to train them and four other students for two additional weeks. It hoped that they could all pass the final that they had failed the first time around. It wanted them to exchange their dunce hats for graduation caps. The additional class time helped immensely. Everyone except Tanya "saw the light." But Glen coached her every day, patiently explaining each procedure that she was still having difficulty with. Finally, she too saw the light. Everyone passed the final. On Friday, graduation day, Tanya gave Glen a gift. He asked, "What's this?" She said, "Just a little thank‐you." The following Monday, he returned it to her, unopened. She said, "What's this?" He said, "I 'accepted' this, but only because I didn't want to rain on your weekend. I'm sorry, but I can't accept a gift just for doing the right thing." 4.9
